The AMG GT R has just lost its top and at 317km/h top speed, the GT R Roadster is one of the fastest ways to put the wind in your hair.
The design carries the latest changes done to the AMG GT range including the GT R model. This means the low slung front end gets the forward-inclined AMG-specific radiator grille creating a distinctive “shark nose” impression. LED High-Performance headlamps to come standard. LED daytime lights are tri-functional where the arched light guide takes on the functions of daytime running light, navigation light and turn signals. The front apron in jet wing design and the front splitter emphasise the car’s width whilst the large outer air inlets aid engine cooling.
The side view sees the GT R exclusive 10 spoke wheels (19-inch front and 20-inch rear) with an air inlet on the front fender. The soft top roof rises and lowers at the touch of a button. At the rear, the wider wheel arches are dominant and have that “hips” effect in looks. Large outer vent openings, vertical swage lines act as a double diffuser. LED tail lamps seat below the fixed large rear wing with an integrated third brake lamp. A centre, large exhaust tip is flanked by two more black tailpipes on the left and right of the diffuser.
The interior sees AMG Performance seats take pride of place with an optional seat climate control function for added comfort. AMG GT R Roadster comes with AMG black carbon fibre/piano lacquer trim elements including the Exclusive Trim Package. A digital instrument cluster measures 12.3 inches with the dash mounted 10.25-inch multimedia monitor on the centre console. The AMG Performance steering wheel with Touch Control buttons comes standard. The coloured display buttons in the V-shaped centre console integrate the display and control of transmission logic, suspension, ESP, exhaust system, aerodynamics profile and start/stop function.
Powering the GT R Roadster is the 430kW/700Nm 4.0-litre Bi-Turbo V8 engine that drives the rear wheels via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7G transmission. The enables the GT R Roadster to sprint from 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds on to a top speed of 317km/h. An electronically controlled limited-slip differential works together with AMG Ride Control for maximum driver enjoyment.
No word yet on whether this model will be available in Mzansi especially with the 750 units limited global availability.
