The Hoonigans have arrived! Yes, it is the anxiously awaited duo – meet the new BMW X3 M, BMW X4 M Competition, summoned to frustrate many within their respective segments.

These two bandits were initially showcased by BMW while undergoing extensive testing at the infamous Nurburgring back in September 2018, and now the Bavarians have made it official with a bit of a twist to what we initially expected. Both the X3 M and X4 M models will be offered in Mzansi as fully-blown Competition models… ‘Go Big or Go Home’.

Both the X4 M and X3 M Competition models benefit from distinct styling cues that include high gloss black kidney grille surround, exterior mirror caps, M gills and on the rear spoiler. standard equipment also includes 21inch M light-alloy wheels in polished Black and an M Sport exhaust system. Also available is an optional M Carbon exterior package, which features carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) for the front air intakes, the air blades in the front apron, the rear diffuser and the exterior mirror caps. These elements are joined by a CFRP rear spoiler.

Standard interior features include M Sport seats with extended Merino leather upholstery, model-specific door sill plates and a model nameplate on the centre console. Options for the Competition models include special bi-colour leather upholstery variants with Alcantara applications.

What’s more enticing is fact that both models benefit from a newly developed 3.0litre straight-6 M high revving TwinPower Turbo engine that delivers a challenging 375kW and 600Nm of torque. Power is then channelled to all four-wheels via the standard 8-speed M Steptronic Sport transmission. Both the BMW X3 M and BMW X4 M Competition are able to  sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.1 sec, before clocking a limited top speed of 250km/h. Adding more flavor to the already appetizing updates is the fact that part of the development includes specific tuning of the M xDrive technology with the active M rear axle differential that is doing wonders in the new M5. The expected outcome is improved cornering dynamics, agility and precision.

Standard equipment include LED headlights, the hi-fi speaker system and the ConnectedDrive navigation package including the Navigation system Professional. The options list has been confirmed to provide further scope for individualisation and includes driver assistance systems and the digital services from BMW Connected and BMW ConnectedDrive.

Pricing starts from R1 510. 000 for the BMW X3 M Competition and R 1 605. 000 for the X4 M Competition models.
