Just as we were adjusting to the arrival of the new and sexy looking Mercedes-Benz A35 AMG hothatch, we are now doused in yet another dose of flamboyance as the new CLA 35 AMG hits the net!

Upgrades to the exterior design have resulted in a more striking look for the new CLA, with a more mature stance that edges closer to the bigger C-Class AMG models. the dominant front end look of the CLA 35 AMG is characterized by two powerdomes on the bonnet, a new radiator grille with the classic twin louvres and the AMG Line front apron with flics on the air inlets add a more distinct appearance to the newcomer. Standard 18inch twin-spoke alloy wheels and side sill panels complete the side profile whilst the rear end gains rear apron with a new diffuser insert, small spoiler lip on the boot and the two round tailpipe trims on the left and right. Completing the look are the two-piece, narrow tail lamps and the number plate housed in the bumper.

The interior design remains typical of the AMG family, with sporty detailing throughout the cabin. Standout features include frameless doors, fully digital displays, ambient lighting, seat covers available in  ARTICO man-made leather with DINAMICA microfibre in black with red contrasting stitching and red seat belts or in ARTICO mad-made leather in black/digital grey. Red piping on the microfibre DINAMICA trim element and ventilation nozzles with a red ring add further accents. Also new is the optional MBUX interior assist assistant which ‘touchlessly’ operates infotainment functions, and reading lights that can be switched on and off by a mere voice command. What’s more enticing is the fact that this new system is able to differentiate between. driver and passenger interaction and recognises certain hand positions and movements.

At the heart of the new CLA 35 AMG is a 225kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo engine that is based on the M 260 unit currently driving the new A250. This unit transfers power to all 4-wheels via a standard 7G auto transmission with pedal shifts, also allowing for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 4.9 seconds before clocking a top speed of 250km/h. AMG has also fine-tuned the Body shell, suspension, all-wheel drive, transmission, driving programs ( Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport + and Individual) complemented by an exhaust system with an automatically controlled exhaust flap as standard. Depending on the drive program selected the sound is modulated from balanced to powerful.

The new Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 4MATIC will be staged at the upcoming New York International Auto Show on the 16th of April 2019,  with market launch scheduled for August 2019 in western Europe.
