Just as we were adjusting to the arrival of the new and sexy looking Mercedes-Benz CLA35 AMG hothatch, we are now doused in yet another dose of sexiness with the arrival of lower end CLA models in Mzansi.
Design cues come in the form of a shark nose front end with a long, stretched bonnet with powerdomes, flat headlamps and a diamond radiator grille with central star. The side profile is characterised by flared wheel arches and wide track that allows for an athletic stance. The rear end gains two-piece, narrow tail lamps and the number plate housed in the bumper, allowing for a wider look.
The interior comes in with a seamless balance between luxury and a touch of a youthful look and feel. This combination has been afforded by the wing-shaped dashboard extending from one front door to the other with no visual discontinuity, sports steering wheel, a free-standing wide-screen display available in three versions (two 7inch displays, one 7inch and one 10.25inch, two 10.25inch displays), sporty turbine air vents, ambient lighting with 64 colours to choose from.
Two models of the CLA have been made available in Mzansi – the CLA 200 powered by a 120kW/250Nm 1.3litre 4-cylinder unit. The CLA 220d gains a 140kW/400Nm 2.0litre turbo diesel powertrain. Both models send power through the front wheels via a standard 7G-DCT transmission.
