Japanese automaker Subaru has confirmed the arrival of its 5th generation Forester family SUV that has been entirely improved from ground up.
Ride, handling, safety, comfort and convenience; traits that the Japanese automaker has prioritised on the newcomer. This has been achieved through increasing the width, length and wheelbase with a 5mm lower ride height. These improvements have resulted in increased interior space as well as better handling.
On the design front, the new Forester gains broader LED headlamps, a redesigned grille, fog lamps surrounds and new underguard treatment for added protection during off road excursions. The roof rails have also been redesigned, now featuring loopholes on the premium spec model. The rear gains split rear taillamps with a more pronounced C-shape, and the black rear cladding now extends higher than before, a more practical and adventurous design. A new series of 17inch and 18inch alloy wheel designs in silver or high-gloss black metallic will be made available along with three new Forester specific colours.
the new interior design slots new levels of fit and finish in the form of new materials on the door panels and centre console, with matching trim on the air vents and around the gear selector which complements the quality interior, the new Forester has focused on practicality over styling. Practicality is catred for by the newly designed rear end which now allows for a wider and higher opening width with up to 1300mm, coupled with the split folding 40:60 rear seats also redesigned to create a flatter loading area when folded down.
convenience and technological features include a high-res touchscreen infotainment with smartphone integration. It’s ation, Apply CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth® control with switches to operate these on the steering wheel as well as voice-command functionality and four USB ports. Also, standard are electric windows, electric parking brake, electric side mirrors, multi-function display, remote keyless entry, a security system with engine immobilizer and powered seats for the driver and passenger. Other convenience features include rear seat pockets big enough to fit smartphones and tablets alike, a pair of USB ports for rear passengers in addition to the 2 USB ports up front and rear air-conditioning vents for air flow to rear passengers.
The new Mzansi based Subaru Forester range is powered by a 115kW/196Nm 2.0litre 4-cylinder engine that sends power to all 4-wheels via a standard CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) that is said to be lighter and more efficient. New fuel consumption figures are 7,6l/100km, a 13% saving over the previous generation car.
The new Subaru Forester is scheduled to be available across Subaru Mzansi showrooms as of the 11th of December 2018 with prices as follows:
