VW has officially revealed yet another member of its eagerly awaited Golf 8 hot hatch line-up for 2021 – the new VW Golf GTI Clubsport.
Ensuring that one does not confuse the Clubsport with the normal GTI model is a more track focused exterior finish that employs a matt black finish on the front bumper and spoiler, new 18inch alloy wheels and black graphics on the front doors. The rear is dominated by a large gloss black boot spoiler whilst a unique diffuser is flanked by oval tailpipes on either side. Wider sills and a lower stance (10mm lower) also contribute to the Clubsport’s already sporty stance.
Unique interior touches include sport seats, sport steering wheel with perforated leather grip zones, Aluminium-look pedals and other special details completing the exclusive look.
What’s more enticing is the fact that the Clubsport benefits from a beefed up mechanical and technical aspect as well. The same 2.0litre turbo engine employed by the upcoming GTI hothatch has been fettled with to deliver a stimulating 221kW and 400Nm of torque. Enthusiasm is channelled through the front wheels via an exclusive 7-speed DSG transmission that allows the Clubsport to tarmac the 0-100km/h sprint in less than 6-seconds. ‘tuned for the track’ they say, and indeed the clubsport is no pushover when it comes to dynamics as it employs a standard electromechanical front-axle locking differential that is included in the Vehicle Dynamics Manager’s network for the first time. Also confirmed is a new driving profile specially designed and tuned for tackling the infamous Nordschleife track in Germany.
The upcoming VW GTI Clubsport will definitely be available in Mzansi by 2021 with official dates and pricing to be confirmed. Stay tuned.
