When the GWM P Series was launched in Dec 2020, it broke new ground by offering luxury features in a bakkie with a price well below competitors. GWM has launched a facelift in Mzansi and we were there to find out if the formula is still the same.
Designed for versatility across the most demanding environments and built for heavy-duty work, long-haul towing, and extreme off-road conditions, the facelift P300 brings a level of capability and performance to the segment, without compromising on the tech & refinement you have come to expect from the P-Series.
The P300 gets a new grille design with chrome replaced by more classy black accents. There are new LED Headlights with revised LED Daytime running lights. The bumper has been redesigned and now has more dynamic lines below the headlights where the previous model had a flat surface. The fog lamps have been neatly integrated into the new lower bumper design with the customary grey bumper guard. The sculpted wheel-arch extensions have been redesigned and below them are striking 18-inch alloys that add to the powerful stance.
Body colour mirror and door handles come as standard. Fixed or Off-Road Sidesteps and a handy Tailgate Step provide easier access whilst LED lighting is used for the rear lights. Roof rails are also offered for those that want to carry additional items on the roof. A chrome roll over bar is also available with buyers able to add roller cover (manual or electric). The tail-gate is now lockable using the key fob whilst a GWM logo is engraved into the tail gate.
The P300 gains a tilt and slide sun roof for those seeking a more airy interior.
The redesigned dash features ambient lighting with soft touch materials used around the cabin in areas where occupants will touch during daily use. There is now a floating 12.3-inch Touchscreen Infotainment System, seamlessly integrating Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto for effortless connectivity. The Aviation gear lever is taken from the Tank for that macho but functional feel. A 7-inch Digital Instrument Cluster keeps key information front and centre, while Wireless Charging, Push-Button Start and Keyless Entry ensure modern convenience without the clutter.
Leather Seats with a Heated and Ventilated front row and a Leather Steering Wheel with heating functionality, take comfort to a new level. Rear seating features leather trim as well.
The 2.0 TD has been replaced by a new engine. The 2.4L Turbo Diesel heart churns out 135 kW of power and 480 Nm of torque, ensuring effortless acceleration and unwavering strength under load. Matched to an intelligent 9-Speed Automatic Shifter, it provides smooth operation and optimal fuel efficiency, proving that power and refinement can go hand in hand. There is an option of a 4x2 or 4x4 (4L and diff lock). With a maximum permissible towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes – ideal for towing caravans, boats, trailers or heavy equipment, this bakkie will not let you down.
