The Haval H6 was the first proper SUV to sway premium buyers into the Chinese brand. Whilst offering an attractive design, quality levels on par with premium offerings from Europe and Japan, its value was the real deal. Fuel efficiency was not its strength with real world figures around the 10l/100km mark. GWM has sorted this out with one of the best PHEV offerings in its segment.

The PHEV means you get the best of both worlds with an electric drive range of 100km totalling up to1106km combined (Fuel and EV), a benefit that has come at the right time with fuel prices soaring since "Red Wig" started that Strait of Hormuz debacle. Even with Eskom doing an 8% tariff increase, charging costs are still way low when compared with fuel prices. Then I hear you mention charging infrastructure for EVs (mostly lack of), well with PHEV you can charge using a normal wall plug or get a 22KW wall mount charger and the engine also does regenerative charging of batteries.

GWM has installed a 1.5 Turbo engine with an electric motor giving a total output of 268kW/760Nm for the All wheel drive version (Hi4) and a 240kW/540Nm output for the 2WD version. The 2WD has a combined range of 1106km whilst the AWD has to make do with 1043km (pray no more for fuel salvation). If you think performance might be ok, you'd be mistaken as these two sprint to 100km/h from rest in 4.8 seconds (AWD) and 7.8 seconds (2WD). Who says you cant your cake and eat it.

The H6 recently received design updates so Haval didn't want to mess with a good thing but they did listen to customers by making tech and design updates to the interior (our government could learn a thing or two about listening but I am now straying too far, back to the car). The main change is the adoption of the latest Coffee OS, the brand’s intelligent infotainment platform.

The system incorporates a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, alongside wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Bluetooth connectivity and a nine-speaker audio system. Front and rear USB charging ports further enhance convenience for occupants. The steering wheel has been updated to feel more "full on the hand" as customers felt the current size smaller than they wanted. Since the PHEV only comes in Ultra Luxury, this means it comes fully equipped with standard features. These include: Auto tailgate with foot swipe opening, glass roof, LED headlights, black roof rails, 19inch black alloys, ambient lighting, 9 speakers, front seat heating & ventilation, wireless charging, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, multi zone climate control to name but a few. Storage space is catered for by up to 30 storage spaces around the cabin with a 560l boot capable of extending to 1485l with the seats folded (Cebolethu Funerals should see this).

Safety and convenience hasn't been left to chance (we do drive in Mzansi) with a suite of safety tech including autonomous driving (lane keep, forward alert, blind spot, cruise control), self parking, 540 degree panoramic view parking.
