ISUZU Motors South Africa has launched a new value-oriented version of its mu-X seven-seater sport utility vehicle (SUV), in the form of the 1.9 LS 4x2 AT. The new budget-friendly derivative, along with the addition of a 4x4 version of the popular 3.0 LSE, expands the local line-up to a total of six mu-X models – the largest range yet for the company.

The new 1.9 LS mu-X features the latest styling updates applied to the rest of the range for 2023. This includes privacy glass for the rear windows, a stunning new Norwegian Blue colour option, and classy dark Magnetite finishes for the radiator grille, front and rear bumpers, front fog lamp bezels, roof rails and side steps.

Modern LED lighting is standard fare across the range for the daytime running lights, Bi-LED headlamps, fog lamps and combination tail lights. The sporty character of the mu-X is further reinforced by the attractive 18-inch alloy wheels, with a matching full-size alloy spare wheel fitted for added peace of mind.

The spacious and welcoming cabin has been updated too, featuring dark Magnetite accents that further enhance the sophisticated look and feel. Standard leather trim adds a further touch of luxury, with the driver’s seat boasting eight-way power adjustment, and four-way adjustment for the front passenger seat.

At the heart of the new 1.9 LS mu-X is ISUZU’s 1 899 cc four-cylinder intercooled turbodiesel engine, as used in the D-MAX bakkie range. This engine is renowned for its outstanding fuel economy and trusted durability, made possible by its advanced design that uses a high-pressure common rail direct injection system and high-efficiency variable geometry turbocharger.

The 1.9 Ddi engine delivers a power output of 110 kW at 3 600 r/min matched to a torque figure of 350 Nm available from 1 800 to 2 600 r/min.

As with the rest of the mu-X range, the 1.9 LS is equipped with the latest version of Isuzu’s six-speed automatic transmission, which provides a seamless driving experience. Furthermore, a rear differential lock is fitted as standard to aid traction on slippery surfaces.

Although the 1.9 LS is the most affordable model in the mu-X range, there’s certainly no compromise in safety or convenience. Front and rear parking sensors along with a rear view camera make parking manoeuvres a cinch.

The package of standard safety features includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control, ABS brakes with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist System (BAS), Brake Override Accelerator (BOA), Hill Start Assist (HAS), Hill Descent Control (HDC), Trailer Sway Control, Cruise Control.

In the event of an accident, the occupants are protected by driver and front passenger airbags, front seat side airbags, curtain airbags and a driver’s knee airbag. Vehicle security is taken care of with remote central locking, a factory-fitted anti-theft alarm system, transponder immobiliser and selectable door unlocking.

A seven-inch touchscreen system with integrated Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Wi-Fi, and front and rear USB charging ports provides seamless smartphone connectivity and charging options while on the move.
