The British stable Jaguar has faced quite a lot of slack since rebranding from a more conventional outfit into a more unconventional outfit. Jaguar's transformation has attracted significant criticism from some traditional enthusiasts, with some even saying it was a complete and total "disrespect" to what the brand name is.

A brief history on the current position of Jaguar

During this said time of changes, we have seen a brand image change where the logo ditched a snarling Jaguar cat which stood for the brands brute-like nature of V8s, roadsters, luxuriousness in exchange for a minimalistic name branding with a stylish font. We have seen the brand completely drop the existing lineup in exchange for "the next chapter" which is obviously EV driven in fact, the brand then revealed that it had made heavy strides and investments towards developing new energy mobility solutions from platforms, battery packs and even driven technology all to become the class leaders and reclaim some of their former glory.

The first step in the phase of initiation for this new regime was the introduction of the Jaguar Type 01. The Jaguar Type 01 is Jaguar's upcoming high-performance, fully electric four-door Grand Tourer. It was first shown in public in Monaco during a Formula E race weekend in May 2026, where its silhouette was revealed under an artistic camouflage wrap.

Whilst major details remain under wraps literally, the vehicle is said to be built on a dedicated electric architecture, that should consist of a triple-motor setup exceeding 1,000 horsepower and a driving range over 700 km. Is the cinema of whether or this will be hot or not bubbles up in the world of social media where forums brigade any kind of perculiar vehicle especially if its a EV, we wait just a bit less because Jaguar has just let us into the upcoming vehicles interior space.

The interior of the Type 01 is exactly how you'd expect it to be

Minimalistic. Since reshaping the brand, Jaguar's design language has taken on a distinctly fashionable character, the kind of interior where words like ‘chic’ and ‘burgundy’ suddenly feel perfectly appropriate

In here, you are welcomed into what Jag states is a "dramatic interior that gives every journey a sense of occasion." Jaguar has taken a minimalist approach, with few physical buttons and limited reliance on conventional screens.

The entire cabin is dominated by a central spine binnacle fixture that almost separates the entire cabin in half almost ensuring that there are individual four seats like a Porsche Cayenne would have. The front of the spine houses what might be a control panel display the size of say an average high performance smartphone that will house some important controls in the form of hot keys.

Interestingly, the driver gets the largest dedicated display. This is very strange because in recent times there has been a huge wave of high quality screens making their way into cabins. In fact you would say this kind of setup is a nod to performance cars of old where only the driver had a kind of display to look at whilst everyone listened to the engine and looked outside for the view.

The Type 01 is a "deeply sensorial experience." This means that this car has nice textures to feel all throughout the cabin as it consists of rich textures of artisan textiles, travertine stone, brass-inspired finishes on the central spine is repeated along the tops of the doors. An easter egg integration of the Jaguar animal can be found along the specific parts of cabin.

Thomas Holden, Chief Interior Designer, Jaguar, said: “Our holistic design philosophy translates the vehicle’s exterior presence into a distinctive interior architecture. In contrast to the horizontal interior design norm, we emphasise its dramatic longitudinal nature through the central spine – an architectural statement that creates four individual spaces. With authentic materials, technology on demand and reductive flowing surfaces, Type 01 presents unmistakable drama and theatre that will define the modern luxury automotive interior of the future.”

Just to touch on the infotainment setup or lack thereof, Jaguar exclaim that they have a smart set of displays that intelligently integrate into the interior architecture, designed to make life easier. A digital ClearSight Rear View Display is positioned centrally at the base of the windscreen, at the same height as the door mirrors, to help the driver focus.

So what happens next?

The Jaguar Type 01 prototype will debut in North America with a distinctive new wrap for Monterey Car Week. This showcase like no other will culminate at Pebble Beach Concours on Sunday, 16th August as Jaguar celebrates its glorious heritage. Jaguar Type 01 will be revealed in New York on 6 October 2026.
