The Renault Kwid has just dethroned the Toyota Vitz as the most affordable vehicle that one can buy in South Africa after Renault announced a new pricing revision for the vehicle's lineup.
Since introduction the Renault Kwid has gained large attention from the people of Mzansi whilst simultaneously being a very good option for first time buyer and financially conscious buyers in the market. In 2025, Renault Group sold 2,336,807 vehicles worldwide (+3.2% in a market up 1.6%), with all its three complementary brands growing higher than the market. Internationally, the Renault brand saw its sales increase by 11.7% thanks to significant growth in its core markets: Latin America (+11.3%), South Korea (+55.9%), Morocco (+44.).
In a report by Cars.co.za it is stated that the Kwid stands as Renault SA's current best-selling nameplate, with 4 785 units registered (translating to an average of 532 units a month) as of Year to date at the end of September 2025. In total, Renault claims to have sold more than 70 000 units in Mzansi since the Kwid's local introduction back in November 2016.
The Kwid may be largely budget-friendly, but do not be fooled because the vehicle comes loaded with generous amounts of features like distinctive SUV-inspired styling, feature-rich technology for its class like an 8" touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, power windows, central locking, and smartphone mirroring, and a claimed best-in-class boot space of 279 litres, expandable up to 620 litres.
Whilst all of this is available, there is more peace of mind when knowing that the 50 kW 1.0 L engine produces a figure of 4.4/4.7 L per 100 km from the 28 litre petrol tank. The engine is paired to a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission that drives only the front wheels.

With the current advertised monthly offer being R2799PM, this equates to ‘less than R99 per day’ to afford to drive a brand-new Renault KWID. The car should come equipped with a standard Renault 5-year / 150 000km mechanical warranty and 6-year anti-corrosion warranty.
