The updated Corsa , a popular supermini car, is receiving several enhancements for the 2024 model year. The Opel brand under Stellantis, will see the CMP-based supermini undergoing a significant facelift. Internationally, there are petrol engined models and electric models but Mzansi only gets petrol models and the facelift will likely see local introduction in that spec. These models have been refreshed, featuring the "Vizor" grille seen on larger Opel models as seen on the Mokka SUV.
The headlights have been redesigned and improved, now incorporating 14 individually controllable LED elements instead of eight. The adaptive, glare-free Intelli-Lux LED Matrix Light, which the Corsa brought to the small car segment in 2019, has been further developed and now comprises 14 LED elements. Opel claims that these matrix headlights provide a bright driving experience, while minimizing glare for oncoming drivers. At the rear, the Corsa now proudly displays "Corsa" lettering. Depending on the trim, the badges can be finished in black or matte satin silver. Additionally, a new Grafik Grey paint option is available, which can be combined with a black roof.
The interior now gets an optional 10-inch infotainment system. The fully digital cockpit – based on the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform from Qualcomm Technologies – features a new intuitive infotainment system with colour touchscreens up to 10 inches in size. Opel states that smartphones connected via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay can be wirelessly charged simultaneously. The seats have redesigned patterns, the shift lever has been updated, and the steering wheel has been restyled.
The range will be completed with the highly efficient combustion engines: 55kW 1.2 gasoline engine with manual 5-speed transmission, 75kW 1.2 Turbo gasoline engine with manual 6-speed transmission, 97kW 1.2 Turbo gasoline engine with automatic 6 or 8-speed transmission and the 82kW 1.5 Diesel engine with manual 6-speed transmission. Opel is introducing 1.2-liter mild-hybrid engines with 75kW or 100kW. These engines drive the front wheels via Opels new dual-clutch automatic transmission. Customers who prefer to drive electrically and locally emissions-free can choose from two all-electric drivetrains: a new option with 115 kW and up to 405 kilometres range as well as the proven variant with 100 kW and a further improved range of up to 357 kilometres (WLTP2); and with 260 Newton metres of maximum torque available from a standstill, both versions of the Corsa Electric deliver high driving enjoyment.
With power units ranging from all-electric to hybrid and highly efficient combustion engines, the new Corsa therefore offers customers an unrivalled choice of drivetrains.
Every new Corsa already has numerous technologies and driver assistance systems as standard equipment. The list includes forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection; lane-keep assist; and drowsiness alert. Additional electronic “helpers” make driving and manoeuvring safer and more relaxing. The offer extends to flank guard and the new, high-resolution panorama rear view camera.
Expect the Polo rival to come to Mzansi during 2024.
