Get ready to meet the all-new LEPAS brand that is set to wash up on our shores as soon as 2026. Just so you know, the word LEPAS is a combination of “Leap” and “Passion,” signifying that the brand is all about vitality and expressive energy.

While we know limited information about most specifics of the brand, we do know that LEPAS is a sub-brand of Chery, meaning that most LEPAS models will share their underpinnings with Chery models. The LEPAS brand promises to introduce a fresh new spin on what an SUV can be, as they use the terms elegant, expressive, and tailored to a contemporary lifestyle. LEPAS is a sub-brand of Chery alongside OMODA, aiming to be a more luxury-oriented brand.
While it’s no surprise, you can already guarantee that they will be exclusively introducing SUV and crossover models, as that is what the people of South Africa currently desire. The LEPAS brand is supposedly aimed at a young client base consisting of style-conscious drivers who seek more than just mobility the brand combines design-led thinking with advanced technology in a range of vehicles that reflect individuality, modern luxury, and purpose.

The LEPAS L8, which will most likely be the first to debut, is the brand’s SUV that “sets a bold tone” and will feature a spacious and sumptuously trimmed interior, along with the latest driver-assist technologies. LEPAS claims that the L8 will redefine what’s expected from a premium SUV.
LEPAS plans to expand its offerings across multiple segments once they’ve started their rollout and established a solid presence, growing a lineup suited to everything from family life to executive living. To lead the rollout of LEPAS in South Africa, Chery South Africa has appointed Letitia Herold as National Brand & Marketing Manager.
“I am honored to have been chosen to build the LEPAS brand in South Africa,” commented Herold. “We’re speaking to a generation that wants more than just a car — they want an experience that reflects who they are. LEPAS is a brand that celebrates modern success, personal expression, and confidence on every journey.”

Just for context, the Chery Tiggo 8, which is said to be the base for the L8, employs a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. All of this outputs 145 kW and 290 Nm. Chinese media reports suggest that the LEPAS L8 will be available with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and fully electric (EV) powertrains, in addition to petrol powertrains; however, there is no news on our local specifications.
