Audi Sport has come up with much needed Performance parts for the Audi R8 that not only escalates its dynamic handling characteristics to newer and more competitive heights but also makes it look the part.

The Audi Sport Performance Parts affords the Audi R8 with a carbon-fibre aero kit developed to in the Audi wind tunnel to achieve maximum downforce. These bits include carbon-fibre front splitter and flics, side sills, a large fixed rear wing and a rear diffuser housing large exhaust tips on either side. Also playing a role in weight reduction programme are the fully milled, black 20inch wheels taken straight from motor racing that are 8kg lighter. With such add-ons, the Audi R8 manages to achieve 250kg of downforce (an increase of over 100kg from the standard model). The effect at 150 km/h is even more pronounced – the downforce is doubled at this speed to 52kg thanks to the Aero kit.

The interior finish for both models gets treated to a sport contour steering wheel with multifunction plus and an Alcantara-trimmed rim with a red 12 o’clock marking. The CFRP finished shift paddles complete the interior changes.

Mechanical upgrades fare from new sport brake linings, which are more powerful and less prone to fading than standard brake linings, with a two- or three-way coilover suspension also available for Audi R8 variants. Bellowing at the rear is a custom-made Akrapovic exhaust system with an ultralight muffler made of titanium including trims, offering a sonorous soundtrack. The 449kW/560Nm 5.2litre V10 powertrain remains untouched.
The Audi R8 by Audi Sport has been confirmed to initially be available in Germany with other markets following suit. Don’t hold your breath for Mzansi availability.
