Were you already on the fence about BMW’s recent styling and aesthetic choices, such as the abnormally sized signature kidney grille, a floating center console, odd dimensions, and various shapes integrated into the body design? Well, it seems that many more changes are coming, and most likely, they will provoke sour reactions on many faces.
BMW has confirmed that its next models to debut will feature an all-new design language under the regime “Neue Klasse,” which was originally intended to designate BMW’s EV range. The first car to officially showcase this look will be the new BMW iX3, which is scheduled to be unveiled by the end of this year. This trend will then trickle down to other models in the range, including the 5 Series, even though it just experienced a mild update in 2023.
The 5 Series, although changed on the outside, will still be based on the CLAR architecture, which means you do not have to worry about the whole range looking like a classic case of copy and paste. Instead, Adrian van Hooydonk insists that all models will have a distinct look while closely resembling each other.
The other models that will receive the makeover are the X5, X2, 2 Series, 7 Series, and X7, in no particular order, of course. Bernd Korber, BMW’s product boss, also ensured that a full rollout should be completed within the span of three years, fully affecting the entire range.
So why the rush, you may ask? Well, Van Hooydonk says that these changes are to help keep up with the rapidly evolving automotive technology and designs, as he has noticed how society’s appetite for change is growing quickly. This begs the question of whether we will see some models in the lineup go fully electric or if BMW will continue its rebellious ways. It remains to be seen whether older models like the 4 Series and 8 Series will receive an update, as their life cycle updates are in the final stages; only time will tell.
