Hyundai Mzansi has launched the facelift i20, one of its most popular models and it now has an Active model for the outdoor lifestyle family.

The front of the i20 Motion and Fluid derivatives now features the cascading grille which brings it in line with new design models from the Korean automaker. The lights have been slightly modified with LED daytime lights moved lower down the front.

New alloy wheels, new rear bumper design and light clusters complete the overall redesign. The Active model features an SUV like design with a different grille and fog lights, with silver cladding on the matt-black front and back bumper. It also rides higher with roof rails aiding the outdoor lifestyle buyer (mounting bicycles or added luggage carrier).

The interior has not changed much from the pre-facelift model with slight revisions to the dashboard and centre console. The roomy interior also allows 285-litres of luggage space increasing to 1001 litres with the rear seats folded. New infotainment systems (7inch touchscreen also offered), USB/Bluetooth/Aux connectivity also come as part of the spec list. Satellite Navigation functionality can be added for R2 500 extra. Motion derivatives have manual air conditioners, while the Fluid and Active versions come with automatic climate control as a standard luxury feature. All derivatives have glove box cooling by the air conditioner. Multi function steering, on-board computer comes standard across the range.

The refreshed i20 range offers a choice of two petrol multi-point fuel-injection powertrains: the 61 kW/115Nm 1.2 engine and the 74kW/133Nm 1.4 . The 1.2 come with a five-speed manual gearbox, while the 1.4s are coupled with a six-speed manual transmission. The automatic transmission for the i20 has four forward ratios. Fuel economy was measured at 5,9 litre/100 km for the i20 1.2 manual; 7,5 litre/100 km for the i20 1.4 automatic; and 6,5 and 6,7 litre/100 km respectively for the 1.4 Fluid manual and 1.4 Active manual respectively. Maximum speeds range from 165 km/h for the i20 1.2 manual derivatives to 182 km/h for the 1.4 manual.

All Hyundai i20 models come standard with 2-year/30 000 km service plan for 1,2-litre derivatives, a 3-year/60 000 service plan for 1,4-litre derivatives, as well as the standard 5-year/150 000 km manufacturer’s warranty which is extended with an additional 2 years or 50 000 km powertrain warranty across the range.
