Ford South Africa has bolstered the Ranger and Everest lineup with an engine option that promises to deliver fuel efficiency without sparring any power.

Ford will give customers the option to choose a 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine in the Ranger or Everest lineup, whilst the 3.0L V6 turbo diesel will be expanded into more derivatives alongside the proven 2.0L turbo diesel, while the 2.0L Bi-Turbo diesel will be phased out as part of the revised line-up.

The introduction of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine will give customers a compelling powertrain, delivering a blend of strong performance, advanced technology, and enhanced driving refinement. This 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine, is said to be a proven performer in other Ford vehicles globally and is specifically tuned for the Ranger and Everest.

This setup consists of turbocharged, direct-injection, inline 4-cylinder engine that is found on the alliance-sourced Amarok, with a lightweight aluminium block that delivers 222 kW of power and 452 Nm of torque, ensuring a responsive power delivery across a broad rev range, promising smooth and efficient performance when paired with Ford's advanced 10-speed automatic transmission.

Meanwhile the existing robust 2.0L turbo diesel engine has been upgraded with a new timing chain for improved durability and performance, giving customers a proven, capable and affordable powertrain option. The 10-speed automatic transmission featuring an updated calibration will be offered for the first time on the XL and XLT models. The sought-after 3.0L V6 turbo diesel will now also be offered on a wider range of models, which will be the subject of a future announcement.

"Looking ahead, Ford is positioning itself for the future and meeting the demands of tomorrow’s customers," says Sunil Sewmohan: Director, Product Marketing Ford South Africa. "The 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine offers a distinct character, providing exhilarating acceleration, a more dynamic driving feel, and a smooth experience that will appeal to those who prioritise responsiveness."

The revised lineup is expected in the first half of 2026.
