Cars have come a long way from being cranked up to start the engine to even having to wait a proper 15 to 20 minutes for it to warm up and meet acceptable conditions for you to drive off, unless it's goodbye engine. Nowadays, these same vehicles can pick you up with no driver and take you to your destination, safe and sound. With all the technology that has been adapted over the years, some cars can now even get new abilities that weren't previously available, all with some Wi-Fi via an Over The Air process.

Whilst this is now the norm in most markets and countries, the newly introduced Geely E5 is set to receive its first global over-the-air (OTA) update in South Africa. That's right, proud owners of the Geely E5 in Mzansi are set to be recipients of an update which, as Geely says, will focus on enhancing the everyday user experience, with improvements spanning intelligent connectivity, ease of use, system responsiveness, and safety-related optimization.

The updates will affect these 3 parts of the vehicle :
Android Auto in-car connectivity, with added support for all Android systems to enable broader in-vehicle integration.
Customizable AVAS low-speed alert sounds, offering three selectable audio profiles to suit different user preferences.
New Drive Setup one-touch activation, allowing drivers to quickly adjust multiple Intelligent driving functions.

This is possible mainly because the car is built on a smart GEA platform which supports various functions that are piloted by GEEA 3.0 electronic and electrical architecture chips and systems. These said systems enhances system responsiveness and stability, while fully enabling continuous, whole-vehicle OTA updates.

"This foundation allows the intelligent cockpit and in-vehicle ecosystem to evolve seamlessly over time, ensuring the vehicle remains up to date throughout its lifecycle.2" says Geely which means that this OTA was the first of many and we shall see what other updates the vehicles gain over the coming years.
