Isuzu has given the top-of-the-range D-Max V Cross and Arctic Truck models alike the black treatment that will be formally named the Onyx Black Trim. This treatment will enhance the vehicles' appearance, and this is what will change.

“Based on the success of the recently launched MU-X ONYX XT and the X-Rider Black in Onyx Black, we’ve had keen customer interest in adding the black colour option to the range-topping D-MAX models,” says Kevin Fouché, Department Executive, Product Planning, ISUZU Motors South Africa.

For the most part, what you see is what you get because the trim means that the car will include blacked-out elements over the regular body-colored panels or gray- trimmed bits. This means blacked-out alloy wheels, sport bars, and mirrors. It also means that now both the D-MAX Arctic Truck AT35 and V CROSS can be specified in metallic Onyx Black body paint.

Designed and developed in collaboration with Arctic Trucks, the D-MAX Arctic Truck AT35 is based on the V-CROSS 4x4 and is assembled along with the rest of the D-MAX range at the ISUZU Motors South Africa plant in Struandale, Gqeberha. The specialised Arctic Truck upgrades are fitted in a dedicated conversion area in the body shop, where ISUZU’s most skilled artisans and technicians craft the bigger wheel wells and arches to accommodate the large 35-inch tyres and beefed-up suspension that give this vehicle its legendary go-anywhere ability.

The V-CROSS models and the Arctic AT35 will still host ISUZU’s renowned 3.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine under the bonnet, which is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing? It will most likely stay the same at R934,900.00 for the top-of-the-range V-Cross and R1,194,000.00 for the AT35 variant since this is just an exterior option. The ISUZU D-MAX range is sold with ISUZU's standard five-year/90,000 km service plan, five-year/120,000 km warranty and roadside assistance, and five-year/unlimited distance anti-corrosion warranty. Service intervals are every 15,000 km or 12 months.
