The Isuzu brand has given its MU-X models an upgrade in features and safety additions ahead of the launch of the highly anticipated facelifted D-Max bakkie, so let us find out what has changed with the SUV.

“The ISUZU MU-X builds upon the core strengths of the current model, adding increased levels of intelligent safety, driver assistance, and powertrain refinement, making the MU-X even more appealing to purchasers of a multifaceted SUV,” says Kevin Fouchè, Product Planning Department Executive, ISUZU Motors South Africa."

The Onyx XT and LSE models are the recipients of some well welcomed features.

Every MU-X model now benefits from Headlamp Welcome Lights as standard which are remotely activated when unlocking the vehicle to illuminate the low beam and parking lamps. The duration of the function can be customized through the vehicle settings or disabled entirely if preferred.

The MY2026 MU-Xs will still benefit from features like a hands-free power tailgate, a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a seven-inch multi-information display, and a 360-degree Surround View Monitor starting from the LSE models and above. ONYX XT variants now feature a dedicated USB port integrated with the stereo camera system.

Off-roading is still a mandatory ability of the MU-X, and so Isuzu maintains that the car has features like larger diameter shock absorbers, contributing to a smooth and composed ride across urban and off-road environments alike.

What are the safety upgrades?

The MU-X already has a healthy amount of safety features, as it comes with a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety technologies, featuring the Isuzu Intelligent Driver Assistance System (IDAS). On top of that, Isuzu has added Traffic Sign Recognition and an Intelligent Speed Limiter. Using the vehicle's forward-facing camera, the system detects posted speed limits, assisting drivers in avoiding unintentional speeding while enhancing overall road safety.

Engine options?

You have the choice of choosing between the 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine that is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission to produce 110 kW and 350 Nm. The latter of the engines in the list of choices is the more well-known 3.0-litre engine that produces 140 kW and 450 Nm across LS, LSE, and ONYX XT derivatives. The 3.0L is offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission and is available in both 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains.
