A new day has dawned as the Stellantis group introduced the updated Opel Grandland for the current year, along with some other products we are likely to see in the coming years; however, let’s focus on the Grandland.
The Grandland was starting to show its age after the brand last gave it a facelift in 2023, but now the car has been heavily updated inside and out. Here’s what’s changed:
The car features Opel’s new design language, “Opel 3D Visor,” which makes it look like an EV or even something straight out of a sci-fi set. This is due to elements such as closed-off grilles, less curves and illuminated badging on the front and rear. The look is very minimalist, comprising fewer lines and more edges overall, giving the car a much cleaner appearance. The front features Opels smart Intelli-LUX headlights that contain 50,000 individual pixels that work to precisely assist you in lighting the way. The Opel badge is also illuminated, and the whole grille is encased in glass, the lower bumper section features two slits that are important for engine cooling.
It has a wheelbase of 2.795 meters, and compared to its predecessor, it is 173 mm longer, 36 mm taller, and 49 mm wider making ample boot space available at 550 liters. The rear also has a new LED taillights that are connected by light bar that houses illuminated Opel lettering instead of a badge like the front. The GrandLand has 5 new color options and all feature a two-tone finish (Black roof) and our unit was finished in a fancy Deep Sea Green Mat which looks great in the sunlight. Other key exterior features include new alloy wheel designs.
Inside, things get advanced too, as the car now features a newly built dash, a new multifunctional steering wheel, and a center console layout. A large 16-inch touchscreen that runs on Snap Dragon programme dominates the dashboard and yes, there are physical buttons for all the important controls like the AC and keys on your oddly shaped flat-bottom multifunction steering wheel. the build quality felt as solid as ever, the infotainment system was easy to use/understand and the cabin has presence of fabric and re-used materials in-keeping with their ECO friendly stance.
Of course it is a very safe family car too as it has just to name a few, Active Cruise Control, Semi-Automated Lane Change, Collision Warning assist amongst the many other standard safety systems that are available
For our market, we are only offered a 1.6-liter petrol engine option paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission that outputs 134 kW and 320 Nm. It has a claimed fuel return of 5.5 L per 100 km. Globally, In most markets the Grandland is offered as both ICE and EV options so it will interesting to see what engine options are made available locally.
