The highly anticipated fully electric Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV has made its debut in Mzansi, providing an exclusive chance for motoring enthusiasts to personally experience it. This thrilling newcomer was highlighted at a prestigious event hosted at the Inanda Polo Club in Sandton.

To kick things off, the EQS SUV's distinct exterior appearance instantly catches attention on the streets, courtesy of its futuristic aesthetic enhanced by a newly acclaimed kidney grille adorned with stars and complemented by an illuminated light band.

The rear of the vehicle also boasts an avant-garde tail lights design. To enhance efficiency, the car incorporates various drag-reducing features, such as aero cladding, front and rear spoilers, and optimized tread patterns, including an innovative running board. These carefully crafted configurations have resulted in a sleek and aerodynamic structure that efficiently redirects air flow, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted ride.

Combining its technological prowess with a wide appeal, the EQS SUV caters to a diverse customer base, including families who desire a 7-seater option.

The third row even features rear entertainment, ideal for long journeys. For adventurous souls, a 5-seater configuration offers ample space and flexibility for all your gear. And let's not forget the tech enthusiasts who yearn for an electric SUV without compromising on the thrill of driving. Inside the cabin, the EQS boasts intuitive digital controls, innovative trim elements, and a host of standard tech features that include an upgraded MBUX system, creating an exquisite and exclusive atmosphere.

We had the privilege of test driving the new EQS SUV on Johannesburg's busy highways. It effortlessly caught the attention of onlookers and fellow drivers with its stunning appearance. Not only that, it provided exceptional comfort and a remarkably quiet cabin, delivering a smooth and relaxing driving experience on various road surfaces and in different conditions. The EQS 450 4MATIC SUV is currently the only model available in South Africa. It comes equipped with a powerful lithium-ion battery that generates an impressive 265kW and 800Nm of torque. This avant-garde vehicle boasts a substantial 108.4 kWh battery capacity, providing an estimated range of up to 616 kilometers according to WLTP standards. Power delivery is seamless, and depending on the selected drive mode (comfort, eco, sport, and individual), power is almost instantly available when needed. It claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 210km/h. The EQS SUV felt right at home, especially during the congested load shedding and traffic in Johannesburg.
