From August 30, 2025, newcomers that aren't so new MG managed to move at least 209 units of their newest hatchback, the MG3, to some happy customers. However, things might have a sour period as the National Consumer Commission has just issued a recall for all those sold MG3 cars.

During mandatory manufacturer crash tests via Euro NCAP and ANCAP, the driver's seat adjustment mechanism of the MG3 failed in various crash test scenarios, causing the seat to twist or move along its rail, increasing the risk of leg injuries to the driver. As a swift response, the National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued and notified consumers about a product recall of MG MG3 vehicles.

Owners of affected vehicles are advised to take their vehicles to the nearest authorised MG dealership for a service measure. All inspection and corrective work relating to this recall will be carried out at no cost to the consumer.

About the MG3

The MG3 is a new B-segment hatchback launched in South Africa , and it competes with cars like the VW Polo Vivo and Toyota Starlet; however, it has the advantage of being the only hybrid in the segment. It is available in four variants, with either a 1.5L petrol engine or a hybrid (HEV) powertrain, starting from R269,900 to R469,900.
