A number of exciting changes and additions will be introduced at the annual premium motorsports event, Msinga Driftkhana at Mphelankani, Msinga KwaZulu-Natal this September.
Now in its 12th anniversary, the event will last the whole weekend with various festivities to cater for everyone’s taste planned from the 22nd to the 24th September. As a reminder Monday, 25 September is a public holiday.
Entertainment enthusiasts will be delighted to know that on the 22nd, they’ll be served with live music from DJs at the official pre-party at Ekoneni Lifestyle.
Significant additions have been made in the main event - on the 23rd - starting from 10am till late.
Over and above the main attraction of car spinning and drifting that the event has been known for, organisers have confirmed the introduction of show and shine exhibitions. VW Polo and Minibus Taxi drivers are encouraged to attend and showcase their vehicles.
The most well-looked after and cleanest Polo and taxi will each receive a cash prize of R3 000 with the runner up and cars in the final podium spot each driving away with R2 000 and R1 000 respectively.
Between the show & shine and spinning, patrons will delight in performances from various traditional women led traditional music and dance groups, amabhinca and traditional dance (indlamu) groups.
The day will conclude with a Music Festival at the same venue featuring Dladla Mshunqisi and other well-known and local artists.
On the 24th September, the weekend will close with a picnic at Merthley Lake in Greytown from 10 am. The family fun day will have jumping castles, live entertainment, boat rides, camping, and quad bike rides.
“The additions made to this year’s event are based on feedback we receive from attendees. We always welcome feedback and constructive criticism for the betterment of Msinga Driftkhana because we can only grow from it,” says founder and organiser Smanga Mabaso.
He adds: “We are excited to once again host this prestigious event that brings Msinga and the whole Umzinyathi District to life and creates major job and networking opportunities for locals.
