The A5 Sportback has finally received the RS treatment and its now available in Mzansi bringing its “sexy back” to the trendsetters who love speed.

The Audi RS 5 Sportback retains the Coupe lines in a more practical 5 door layout and now with the RS treatment its added aggression to sexiness. The model features a wide, flat single-frame grille, solid air intakes with a honeycomb structure typical of an RS, and a front spoiler with matte aluminium Quattro lettering. Aside from the headlamps, the vehicle features a long wraparound bonnet with a power dome. Optional Matrix LED can replace the standard LED headlights with LED daytime lights.

The new RS model retains the characteristic shoulder line it shares with the Coupe. Typical Quattro in design, the blistered wheel-arches are wider and filled to the brim by standard 20-inch wheels whilst the shoulder line adds sexiness to the side profile. The sloping roof-line hints at the Coupe design. Even though the RS5 Sportback is longer, the short overhangs lend it a sporty stance. At the rear, the new RS model gets the RS-specific diffuser insert, RS exhaust system with oval tailpipes and fixed spoiler lip giving the rear end its sportiness. LED taillights come standard. Owners can select from a variety of design packages including Black Styling Package, Carbon Styling Package, Red brake callipers and a must have Panoramic glass sunroof.

The high-quality, sporty interior of the new Audi RS 5 Sportback is finished in black, and provides space for five people. RS sport seats with a honeycomb pattern in Fine Nappa leather and the flat-bottomed RS multifunction sports leather steering wheel. RS emblems can be found on the seats, the steering wheel, the sill panel strips and on the selector lever. The RS5 Sportback comes standard with virtual cockpit and MMI Navigation Plus but you will pay a bit extra for the head-up display. RS-specific displays indicate the g-forces, tire pressures and torque. LED ambient lighting, Bang & Olufsen multi-speaker sound comes standard

The RS5 Sportback majors on sexiness not at the expense of practicality. The square-shaped profile and loading width measuring exactly one metre enable optimum use of the 480 litre trunk capacity. The interior styling packages available to buyers include gloss black, carbon with aluminium attachments and carbon with black attachments around the cabin for that racy feelFolding down the rear seats increases the capacity to 1,300 litres. The rear seat backrest is divided in a 40:20:40 ratio as standard. The RS 5 Sportback weighs in at 1,840 kilograms.

Powering the RS5 Sportback is Audis new 2.9 TFSI BiTurbo V6 as seen on the RS5 Coupe and Porsche models. It develops 331kW/600Nm going to all wheels (Quattro) via an 8-speed Tiptronic automatic. 0-100km/h is achieved in a claimed 3.9 seconds, top speed is not quoted but one would expect the limiter to halt things at 250km/h (280km/h with RS Dynamic package not mentioned on RS5 Sportback).

To ensure all that power is transferred dynamically to the road, Audi has installed a variable shock absorber suspension as standard with an optional rear sports differential and Sports Suspension Plus with Dynamic Ride Control DRC. Ceramic brakes and RS dynamic steering adding to the fun factor but need more cash to get on your RS5 Sportback.

The Audi RS5 Sportback comes standard with the 5 year/100 000km Audi Freeway Plan and inclusive of all taxes:
