The much-anticipated launch of the new E-Class in Mzansi has finally arrived, bringing with it a harmonious blend of classic design and cutting-edge technology. Mercedes-Benz has once again demonstrated their commitment to luxury and performance, with the E- Class boasting both aesthetic appeal and state-of-the-art features.

The new E-Class epitomises classic saloon proportions with a modern twist. The exterior design is defined by expressive character lines along the sides, a short front overhang, and a long bonnet. A black panel-like surface seamlessly connects the radiator grille with the headlamps, enhancing the vehicle’s sleek look. The three-dimensionally designed radiator grille varies between progressive and classic, depending on the equipment line, allowing for a customizable front-end appearance.

Standard high-performance LED headlamps provide a distinctive day and night design, with daytime running lights taking on the brand’s signature eyebrow shape. Powerdomes on the bonnet further accentuate the car’s sporty character. The side view showcases the vehicle’s harmonious proportions and the distinctive “cab-backward” design, with flush-fitting door handles available as an option. Two separate character lines on the sides emphasise the car’s dynamic stance.

The rear design includes two-section LED lights with a new contour and special design. The star motif within the light units ensures a unique day and night presence, aligning with the brand’s luxurious identity.

Step inside the new E-Class, and you’ll find an interior that exudes sportiness, high quality, and digital sophistication. The dashboard is designed to provide a seamless digital experience. For models equipped with the optional front passenger screen, the MBUX Superscreen extends to the central display, creating a visually immersive interface. Models without the passenger display feature a large trim element that extends to the centre, with the central display appearing to float above it.

At the launch, the E220d’s passenger screen proved to be a standout feature, offering a high-tech interface that was impressive. The front section of the instrument panel is illuminated by the Active Ambient Lighting strip, which runs from the windscreen, past the A-pillars, and into the doors, creating a spacious and inviting atmosphere. The floating control array in the upper section of the door panels complements the glass surfaces of the screens, adding to the futuristic feel.

The seat design is both elegant and functional, with contours that flow from the inside to the outside and appear to float above the base. Indented vertical lines follow the seat’s outer contour, widening towards the top for added comfort and style.

In terms of spaciousness, the new E-Class stands out in its segment. The driver benefits from five millimetres more headroom compared to the previous model. Rear passengers enjoy increased knee room and legroom, thanks to the two centimetre longer wheelbase, with knee room and maximum legroom increasing by 10 and 17 millimetres, respectively. Elbow width in the rear has also increased by 25 millimetres, bringing it closer to S-Class levels. Additionally, the luggage capacity has been expanded to 540 litres, making it a practical choice for long journeys.

One of the most exciting new features is the Active Ambient Lighting with Sound Visualisation. This innovative system allows occupants to experience music with three senses: hearing (Dolby Atmos® technology if desired), feeling (via sound resonating transducers in the optional Burmester® 4D surround sound system), and seeing (through light visualisation). The light strip of the Active Ambient Lighting reacts to music, with fast beats causing rapid light changes and flowing rhythms creating soft lighting transitions. Experiencing this at the launch was nothing short of spectacular, setting the perfect mood.

The optional THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control and Digital Vent Control enhance comfort by automatically adjusting the front air vents based on user preferences. The nozzles can also be manually aligned, providing flexibility and convenience.

The new E-Class offers agile handling and a smooth ride, thanks to the standard AGILITY CONTROL steel spring suspension with selective damping system. This system is 15 millimetres lower than the suspension of the plug-in hybrids, providing a sportier feel.

Standard driving assistance systems include Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, ATTENTION ASSIST, Active Brake Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Parking Package with reversing camera, and Speed Limit Assist, ensuring a safe and stress-free driving experience.

The E200 model delivers 150kW / 320Nm, achieving a 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.5 seconds with a top speed of 240 km/h. The E200d offers 145kW / 440Nm, reaching 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds with a top speed of 238 km/h. These performance figures highlight the balance between power and efficiency that Mercedes-Benz is known for.

5 year/100 000km Service Plan and Maintenance Plan included.
