The new ISuzu MU-X is the “Slay Queen” version of the hugely popular “Nogwaja” and in line with the SUV theme, it offers buyers a more luxurious design and more features.
An offering that covers style, family functionality and all road prowess is exactly what Mzansi buyers are seeking and the new Isuzu MU-X will give them exactly what they want.
Starting off with the front where the new model gains a new front end design aimed at giving the MU-X that stand out feel on the road. There is new bumper, restyled grille, redesigned ISUZU badge, and a sharper, more aggressive headlamp cluster. These LED headlamps, featuring bi-beam technology, LED daytime running lights and repositioned fog lamps enhance visibility while adding a futuristic edge.
New wheel designs further enhance the new MU-X’s visual appeal, with robust 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels for the LS and LSE (right on above image) models and striking 20-inch wheels on the all-new ONYX XT (left on above image). Side steps are neatly integrated into the design of the new MU-X whilst roof rails allow the obligatory Thule carry box to be installed with ease. Black mirror caps add an exclusive touch on the ONYX XT. There are two fresh paint options – Eiger Grey Metallic and Biarritz Blue – that expand the total colour palette to eight options, giving buyers more personalisation choices.
At the rear, updates include a revised bumper, a new tailgate design, the introduction of a mid-level spoiler, and new badging. The advanced new combination LED taillights are now linked by a distinctive tailgate garnish that reinforces the athletic flair of the MU-X. The tail gate is electronically operated with keyless opening via the key-fob or by moving your foot under the rear bumper, quite useful when carrying items.
Inside, the MU-X’s cabin has been meticulously updated to deliver greater sophistication and comfort. The dashboard has been revamped, and new interior colours for the doors and armrests, along with reworked leather seat patterns, elevate the premium feel. The infotainment system has been upgraded with a high-resolution nine-inch display, featuring a piano black finish, two rotary dials, and five touch-sensitive switches. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility come as standard, with connectivity via USB or wirelessly through Bluetooth.
The new MU-X gains a new digital instrument cluster featuring electroluminescent colours, gold graphics, and a newly sculpted binnacle, the display provides vital driving information with improved clarity. Traditional analogue dials for the tachometer and fuel gauge remain, alongside an LED temperature gauge, ensuring an intuitive and engaging driving experience.
Inside, the ONYX XT gets exclusive red ambient lighting on the dashboard and doors, complemented by white footwell and overhead console illumination. The leather seats are accented with red stitching, and the steering wheel features a piano black finish with a metallic lower centre ornament. The electrically operated seats are heated for those cold mornings or snowy days.
The LS models retain an analogue reversing camera, while the LSE and ONYX XT gain a new digital 360-degree Surround View Monitor to significantly enhance all-round visibility.
The 7-seater MU-X has separate climate control vents for the 2nd and 3rd row seating. Leather on top spec models is retained on the rear seats whilst the 2nd row and 3rd row can fold flat to aid carrying capacity on all models.
The engine line up is retained with the ultra fuel efficient 1.9 Turbo diesel available on the entry-level LS model offering 110 kW and 350 Nm, with a commendable fuel consumption of just 7.0 litres per 100 km. The proven 3.0-litre engine, which is available in LS, LSE and ONYX XT specification, delivers 140 kW and 450 Nm of torque, providing strong performance both on- and off-road.
The 1.9-litre is available in 4×2, while the 3.0-litre is offered in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations, with a diff-lock and low-range transfer case on the 4×4 variants. Whether tackling city streets or venturing into the unknown, the MU-X delivers refined, confident performance

The ISUZU MU-X range is sold with ISUZU’s standard five-year/90 000 km service plan, five-year/120 000 km warranty and roadside assistance, and five-year/unlimited distance anti-corrosion warranty. Service intervals are every 15 000 km or 12 months.
