New Renault Duster launched

With 2.2 million sales globally and 26 000 sales locally, the Duster has been a hit with adventure SUV buyers. Now in its 3rd Generation, the new model will aim to keep what the Duster embodies, and that is a Robust, Practical and Eco-Savvy SUV. We attended its local launch in Cape Town.

The new Duster retains the popular muscular and modern design with a tough stance. The front gets Y-shaped LED headlights with the Renault name prominently placed in the grille. The bonnet gets a design bulge for added dynamic design. The chunky body cladding is a typical SUV design feature whilst the front and rear skid plates are mass-dyed, eliminating the need for paint and offering environmental benefits as well as increased durability.

On the 6MT 4WD model, there are modular roof bars with a load capacity of 70kg. The higher ground clearance (up to 217mm (4WD)) makes it more capable off-road and gives it a more dominant stance. Flared wheel arches with cladding enhance its ruggedness while providing protection against dirt and debris.  Flush rear door handles are integrated into the C-pillar for a sleek, coupe-like appearance and for practicality, the support roof-mounted storage is ideal for travel and outdoor activities. 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels come standard on the Zen spec whilst the top spec Intens get the 18 inch version of that design.

Inside, there is a 10.1 -inch central screen angled towards the driver. A new 7-inch digital instrument cluster enhances driver convenience, providing clear, customizable driver information. The new Y-shaped signature design cues connect the interior and exterior: Y-shaped air vents and trim elements inside and Y-shaped LED headlights and rear lights outside.

The new Duster ‘s interior cabin experience is enriched with enhanced space onboard with a wider and more practical interior, where the more ergonomic redesigned seats offer better lumbar support and improved cushioning for long journeys. The New Duster offers better space optimization, providing more legroom and headroom, for improved comfort and seating for passengers.

The new automatic transmission e-shifter gear lever enhances ease of use whilst the 4WD manual version gets rotary shifter for off road driving modes. The 4WD monitor in the Duster 4WD model is a real-time off-road assistance system that helps drivers navigate challenging terrains.

There is more cabin space for all passenger with the boot volume growing to 472 litres (4×2). The mild-hybrid 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 48V battery and an electric motor (starter generator, 6-speed manual transmission), yields 96kW and increased torque efficiency through the electric assistance.

The Duster 4X2 EDC models are equipped with a 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine, paired with the EDC automatic transmission in a front wheel drive 4X2 configuration.  Power output equates to 113kW, with 250Nm torque at 1,700 rpm. Depending on driving conditions and trim, fuel consumption is between 6.5L/ 100km, with CO2 emissions at 147g/ km.

The new Renault Duster is backed by a 5-year/150,000 km mechanical warranty, a 3-year/ 45,000 km service plan, and a 6-year anti-corrosion warranty.

Servicing is required every 12 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first.
