VW has given the Tiguan Allspace a facelift bringing it in line with the recently updated Tiguan

The design hasn’t changed much but the few elements added do make a noticeable difference with LED headlights now standard across the range. The new headlight deign brings the model in line with recent VW models most notably the Golf 8. LED Daytime lights also come standard with twin strip lights on the headlamp units whilst LED Matrix headlights will not be an option. The grille has received slight changes as its now wider and lower than before with revised chrome accents on the R-Line models. An LED strip runs across the grille linking both LED Headlights in design. The bumper has also received updates as the outer design features revised faux air intakes with the central intake separated by a colour coded design strip.

On to the side, the new Tiguan Allspace features new design wheels ranging from 18 to 20 inches in size depending on spec. Roof rails come in chrome on R-Line models with a chrome strip running from the lower front door to the rear wheel arch. The Tiguan Allspace differs from the standard Tiguan with rear doors longer to aid access for passengers. The rear seas new LED lights feature across the range with Tiguan lettering seating below the new VW badge. The bumper has also received changes with red reflector lights running across the bumper whilst faux exhaust tips and polished faux diffuser give the design flair. Buyers will be able to choose between model spec listed as Life, Elegance and R-Line. Panoramic roof will still be offered as an option on models. The optional premium sound system that Volkswagen has developed together with Harman Kardon ensures fascinating acoustic experiences. A subwoofer, a digital 16-channel amplifier, 8 plus 1 high-performance loudspeakers and an amplifier with a 480-watt total output provide crystal clear treble and deep, rich bass sounds. Four sound scenarios, surround mode and razor-sharp speech reproduction guarantee high-end sound at all seats

Inside seas the Tiguan Allspace adopt the latest tech updates as seen on the Tiguan with the most noticeable being the larger infotainment touchscreen which now features wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connections. All air conditioning, heating and ventilation functions of the standard three-zone automatic air conditioner are operated via a new digitalised module in the centre console. Touch panels and sliders take the place of rotary knobs and buttons. There is also a new leather trimmed multi-function steering wheel with touch sensitive panels also replacing normal rotary buttons. The digital info display in front of the driver is now clearer. The driver can now also choose to receive information via the full-colour head-up display. It projects driving-related information such as speed, directions and warnings in the driver’s field of vision. The Tiguan Allspace will come standard as a 7-seater in Mzansi with the 3rd row seat folding flat into the floor when not in use. Loading space should be ample with the seats up and folding all seats flat (including the front passenger seat) will give much added space.

Engine choices will likely mirror those of the updated Tiguan with a 110kW 1.5-litre 4-Cylinder TFSI engine being the entry model. This will come with a 7 speed DSG transmission driving the front wheels or via the 4Motion all-wheel drive. Overseas there is also the 110kW 2.0-litre TDI engine which we are unlikely to see in Mzansi. The new Tiguan Allspace will adopt the new self driving tech as seen on the Tiguan. Partly automated driving is made possible by IQ.DRIVE Travel Assist that is used for the first time in the Tiguan Allspace. The system can take over steering, braking and acceleration at speeds starting from 0 km/h up to 210 km/h. To do this, Travel Assist relies on familiar systems including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) for longitudinal guidance, and Lane Assist (fitted as standard) for lateral guidance.

The local model line-up with engines will be finalised closer to launch in 2022. Pricing will also be made available closer to launch.
