Peugeot Mzansi has entered the highly competitive and lucrative double cab market, with the Landtrek targeting buyers seeking a quality, sleek design and great driving experience. It takes on the established Double Cab contenders like the Hilux, Ranger, D-Max and the current market surprise, the GWM P-Series.

The design is bold with the front dominated by the large grille which has the Peugeot emblem taking pride of place. LED Daytime lights are neatly integrated into the LED headlights and lower sides of the grille in a very eye catchy look. The bonnet has dynamic crease lines whilst lower down the front, there are fog lamps with chrome accents. The bumper has a protection moulding that gives the front a dynamic “bakkie” look. There are 2 spec models i.e. Allure (4×2) and 4Action (4×4).

On to the side, there are 18-inch wheels for the 4×4 range topper whilst the 4×2 gets 17-inch wheels as standard. The 4×4 also gets side steps with the 4×2 needing buyers to add extra “Randelas” for the chrome steps. Speaking of chrome, the door handles, mirrors and roll bar are finished in chrome for a flashy look. Roof rails are also offered as standard. Wheel arches get a sculpted design giving the Landtrek added visual appeal as desired by the buyers.

The rear gets LED look lights whilst the bumper has chrome inserts whilst the load bay is big enough to fit a pallet (Load bin has a pay load of 1015kg and the car has a towing capacity of 3000kg). The Landtrek also has a 12 volt socket on the load bay, something that will be handy with commercial use or lifestyle buyers.

The interior continues the design accents as seen on recent Peugeot models including the award winning 2008. This means there is a 10-inch infotainment colour-touchscreen that dominates the dash which has Apple CarPlay/Android Auto/Bluetooth connectivity with a 10gb hard drive. There is a standard dual zone climate control, multi function leather steering with a flat bottom design, Piano keys iCockpit with Key less Start/Stop offered as standard.

Other standard features on the 4×4 model include electric leather seats with electric adjustment for both front seats, Navigation, Lane Departure Warning, 360 degree surround view parking system with parking sensors front and rear. The spacious interior seats 5 in comfort with multi airbags being part of a suite of safety features (DSTC, ABS, Hill Start Assist, Emergency Brake Assist, Cruise control with limiter).

Both the Allure and the 4Action models are powered by a 110kW/350Nm 1.9-litre 4-cylinder 16 valve turbodiesel motor with Eco, Sport and Manual driving modes. There is one transmission option with the 6 speed auto for both models. The 4×4 model has 4H, 2H and 4L with a mechanical locking differential standard. Selection from 2H to 4H can be done on the move at speeds of up to 70km/h. Claimed fuel efficiency is 8.9l/100km for the 4×2 and 9.1l/100km for the 4×4. Ride refinement is one of the aspects which Peugeot focused on as double cabs are now used as lifestyle vehicles in urban settings.
