The VW Polo Vivo is undoubtedly one of Mzansi's most highly regarded value packed small hatchback in its segment. We were fortunate enough to test drive the new VW Polo Vivo Black Style, which exudes a stylish and vibrant appeal, effortlessly capturing attention wherever it goes. It certainly is a socialite on the streets of Mzansi.

One of the defining aspects of the Volkswagen Polo Vivo Black Style is its ability to get attention due to its distinctive qualities. This can be largely credited to the addition of the "Black Style" package, which exudes a youthful, fashionable, and personalized aura. Our test unit came in reef blue paint finish, which complemented the various black exterior elements.

These elements included black 16-inch alloy wheels, gloss black mirror caps, a gloss black painted roof, gloss black B and C pillar covers, black side sill covers, body-colored boot spoiler, privacy glass and a chrome exhaust tip.

Not only does this package differentiate the Vivo from its regular counterpart, but it also has a strong appeal among female companions... if you catch my drift!

The interior of the vehicle remains unchanged in terms of design, but there are a few small updates that include an anthracite headliner and black sun visors, giving it a sleek and stylish "blacked out" appearance.

Our test unit was the comfortline spec, which comes with a multifunction steering wheel, infotainment touchscreen, and a reversing camera, among other features.

The cabin had a slightly more premium feel, with the privacy glass adding to the overall black theme. However, we were disappointed with the poor quality of the reversing camera and the questionable sound quality of the radio. Despite these drawbacks, the Vivo Black Style edition maintains an upscale look in the interior and keeps all the desirable traits of the vivo model.

Beneath the bonnet of the vehicle lies a 63kw 1.4litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that propels the front wheels through a standard 5-speed manual transmission. The Vivo Black Style i.e. the Polo provides an enjoyable experience on twisty roads. Although the 1.4 powerplant feels sluggish during takeoff, it delivers a satisfying surge of power once in motion. Our highway driving achieved a fuel consumption of 6.8l/100km, which is somewhat high considering the engine size. Urban roads will yield a consumption of 7.1l/100km. Overall, we found the appearance of the VW Polo Black Style package impressive and believe it will appeal to the youthful and adventurous crowd. However, the 1.4l powerplant's fuel consumption may be considered excessive, despite offering a flawless driving experience.

Price: The package adds R9 000 on the Comfortline and R8 250 on the Highline and its well worth the price considering the looks.
