Seems like just yesterday the news about Tata Passenger Vehicles re-entering our market made headway, and after a fairly good run of traction, they too have announced that for the new year we can expect two new models that will be joining the lineup.

One of the two new models making an introduction soon is the Tata Nexon. This is a compact crossover that will join the range to slot between the Punch and Harrier in terms of size. The Nexon features similar styling to its SUV family members, with standout signature features including sequential LED daytime running lights, bi-function full LED headlamps, and a dual-tone roof.

The car is also expected to be tech-rich and have a spacious interior, which will be distinguished by a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo, a next-generation physical touch panel, and a grand floor center console. As with the rest of Tata's range, the Nexon also has a big focus on safety . Thanks to the fitment of equipment such as six airbags and electronic stability control, it has a five-star Global NCAP rating that it achieved in the year 2024.

The Nexon will be powered either a petrol or diesel engine ;

- 1.2 l Turbocharged Revotron Petrol with 88.2 kW.

- 1.5 l Turbocharged Revotorq Diesel with 84.5 kW.

An honorable mention is that there is a fully electric Nexon variant, and it will be interesting to see whether it will make its way to our shores.

The second car to join the existing models is the Sierra. This will be a cross between the Curvv and the top-of-the-range Harrier when it launches in South Africa later this year. This model aims to offer a fresh and distinctive take on the medium SUV design concept.

"The Tata Sierra is a bridge between the past, present and future as it blends nostalgia with cutting edge design and technology and represents Tata’s ability to offer vehicles that resonate emotionally while pushing the boundaries of innovation. The Tata Sierra was rewarded with a Red Dot award for its ground-breaking design, making it the first car in India to be recognised by Red Dot." says Tata.

Exterior design highlights include what Tata call Night Saber Bi-LED booster headlamps and Light Saber LED daytime running lights with welcome and goodbye functionality. At the rear, the Light Saber LED light signature. The side profile consists of flush door handles and 19-inch alloy wheels.

The interior of this model takes things up a notch as it has persona themed interiors, the segment’s largest sunroof and horizon view triple screens that stretch across the dashboard. The cabin is also said to have a wide variety of innovative storage areas and a segment leading boot space of 622 litres for practicality.

For engine options the Sierra has either a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 111kw and 280Nm, or a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel mill that develops 87kw and 260Nm. Both these engines are available with manual and automatic gearbox options.

More details about launch spec, engine option specifics, and most importantly should be disclosed closer to launch timing this year.
