It seems joint mobility ventures in Mzansi are fast becoming popular, with Toyota being one of the major contributors of such partnerships.
The Japanese automaker has once again collaborated with Daihatsu Motor Company to introduce a replacement model of the funky Aygo city zipper. The new Ayga has been confirmed to share most of its underpinnings with the Daihatsu Ayla – a five-door urban hatchback that was initially introduced back in 2013.

Exterior styling of the new Toyota Ayga ‘urban dweller’ come in the form of a 3-dimensional front bumper design that has been enhanced by upwardly curving projector headlamps, with color-coded door handles, electrically retractable mirrors, 14inch wheels, roof-mounted rear spoiler and LED-powered rear lights completing the rather sporty look.

Due to strategic wheel positioning, the Ayga affords improved interior and boot space when compared to the model it replaces. Interior styling comes in the form of a floating dashboard which opens up space for cup holders underneath, mixed use of silver and black plastics throughout the interior, fabric seats and polyurethane covered gear-lever and steering wheel.

Powering the new Ayga is a 49kW/89Nm 1.0litre 3-cylinder engine that drives the front wheels via a standard 5-speed manual or a self-shifting 4-speed auto transmission. The manual version has been confirmed to return an average fuel consumption of 4.8l/100km whilst the auto does 4.9l/100km to the 33litre tank.
