Toyota Mzansi will launch the C-HR next year and if priced right, will dominate the Compact SUV segment.
This segment has seen massive growth with local models like the Mazda CX3, Renault Captur, Ford EcoSport, Nissan Juke to name a few, proving popular with buyers. It seems Toyota will now add its name to that list with the C-HR. Toyota claims the C-HR was designed to stand out both within the brands line up and its segment, the C-HR (Coupe High-Rider) shows greater stylistic freedom rarely seen.

The interior is branded ‘Sensual Tech’ and is dominated by an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with Navigation. A stylish dash ornamentation and piano black panel give a youthful and quality layout. A JBL Premium Audio system is offered comprising an 8-channel, 576 Watt stereo amplifier and 9-speakers (incl Sub woofer), including two newly patented acoustic JBL wave guides, known as horn tweeters. The Coupe shaped C-HR seats 5 and offers adequate luggage space.

Mzansi will get the new 85kW/185Nm 1.2litre 4-cylinder Turbo engine claimed to consume 5.5l/100km. The motor will be available with a six-speed manual gearbox or CVT automatic, and front or all-wheel drive. Performance varies as to the transmission and drive wheels ranging between 10.9 to 11.4 seconds 0-100km/h and the top speed ranging between 180km/h to 190km/h.
The C-HR is confirmed for local introduction early in 2017. Pricing will be released closer to local introduction and will be the key to its domination of the segment. To get an idea, we have listed the pricing of its closest competitors at current prices as per table below:
