Toyota last had an FJ branded Land Cruiser model in Mzansi around the early 2011 (below) with the 4.0 V6 engined model giving the brand a dynamic design in a time when Toyota was quite "restrained" in design. Now there is a new FJ branded Land Cruiser model which has been unveiled only for the Japanese market. How we wish we were in the land of the rising sun.

The new model just unveiled by Toyota will provide new value in the form of "Freedom & Joy" that come from enjoying the Land Cruiser in your own way―while retaining the reliability, durability, and off-road performance that support people's lifestyles.

There are two model design at launch with one getting round LED lights and the other square design LED lights.

The round LED lights model also features a side "snokel" hinting at serous off road prowess. It also features a roof carry item which is useful for the bush. Both front and rear corner bumpers are removable, segmented types, allowing only damaged parts to be replaced to improve repairability, while also taking customizability into account to allow users to enjoy their Land Cruiser in their own unique ways

The square headlights model is more an urban SUV style in execution. Both models feature black alloy wheels and side steps. The FJ model has silhouette that emphasizes a square design with bold lines on the bonnet sides.

The rear has a door mounted spare wheel with a large glass area dominating the rear door. LED lights are placed on the outer edge of the rear design creating a large door opening to aid loading.

Unlike the old FJ Cruiser (2011 Mzansi model) which came with suicide "coupe" doors, the new model has standard 4 side doors.

The interior layout mimics the Land Cruiser Prado with a large infotainment screen at the centre of the dashboard. air con controls are placed between the screen and the centre console that features the gear lever. A manual handbrake is an interesting choice by Toyota.

The cabin is both functional and quality finished. Leather seats are offered.

Utilizing the platform refined in the IMV series ensures good ground clearance and approach angle. Achieves outstanding off-road performance worthy of a Land Cruiser through wheel articulation (the ability of a tire to stay on the ground) equivalent to the 70 Series. Driving the new model is a 120kW 2.7-liter petrol engine linked to an All wheel drive layout through a 6 Super ECT.

The model is not destined for Mzansi at the time of launch but hopefully that can change since the models are Right Hand Drive production units.
