Where are my petrol heads and young-at-hearts at? This one is definitely for you. Toyota has launched the updated Toyota GR86 and I must say, it is definitely track ready. What a sprinter.
The design is definitely inviting and has a greater sports feel. From the LED lights by the headlamps to the Matrix grille (exclusive to GR brand) which gives the car a more sporty feel. The GR86 comes with 18inch aluminum matte black wheels adding to the sporty look and the doors have frameless windows. The back has a wider stance with rear LED headlamps with a strip line across the back in between the rear head lamps. The spoiler and shark fin adds to sporty feel.
The Interior is driver focused with an 8inch infotainment display that comes with apple car play and android car play (the android car play still needs a bit of work as it continuously disconnects). The GR86 comes with suede and leather sport seats with silver stitching, leather steering wheel (sporty feel) with GR logo which is also branded on the front mats, dashboard and seats. The rear seats are pointless in my point of view as there is zero leg room for the back seats. The sound system was worked on from the previous GR86 and sounds absolutely amazing and loud.
The GR86 has amazing safety features such as cruise control, lane departure, reverse camera, 7 airbags, human detector, pre crash system, blind spot detector and much more.
The GR86 comes in both Auto and manual derivatives which produce a speed of 174KW and 250NM, does a 0 – 100 in 6.4 seconds and a transmission of 6 speeds, which excel on the road and most especially on track. We got the privilege of experiencing this speed on track doing drag racing and testing its capabilities on the skid pad by drifting which was absolutely amazing. Just testing the different modes of Normal, sport and track (on the auto model) really proves the safety of the car and showed off its capability. Absolutely loved the experience.
Overall the vehicle was really a pleasure to drive and I am super excited to see how Mzansi is going to receive the GR86, I can assure that the petrol heads are going to have a thrilling excitement for this one.
