New style, improved technology, enhanced engines and a sharpened driving experience; this is what the facelift Ford Mustang has gained as a mid-life makeover for 2019.

Design-wise, the exterior styling has received minor but effective enhancements that include a lowered bonnet profile with integrated air vents, revised lower grille, whilst the headlights, daytime running lights and fog lights now benefit from standard LED technology. The rear gains a re-modelled bumper and diffuser element. Also available are standard quad-tailpipes for the 5.0-litre GT model. New metallic paint finishes and new 19inch wheel options sum up the exterior offering.

Cabin highlights emanate from soft touch materials for the door linings, with the door handles gaining an aluminium finish. Leather-trimmed, heated and cooled seats with six-way electric adjustment are also on offer. Technological improvements range across the Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control (a first for the Mustang), Distance Alert technologies, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Aid. A 12inch fully customisable instrument cluster and Ford’s SYNC® 3 communications and entertainment system are also on the cards.

Enhancements underneath the bonnet have been granted to both engines currently on offer in Mzansi. These include the range topping 5.0litre V8 engine being further developed to deliver 331kW (301 previously) of power whilst peak torque remains at a sizeable 529Nm. The more efficient 2.3litre Ecoboost petrol engine has also been given a slight torque boost of 11Nm over the 430Nm figure of the outgoing model (now delivering 441Nm) with power figures of 213kW remaining untouched. Both models channel their thrust through the rear wheels via a standard 10-speed auto transmission.

What’s more enticing is the fact that Ford has offered a new Active Valve Performance Exhaust system technology that allows for the adjustment of a desired exhaust note at any given time. Also offered are recalibrated shock absorbers, a stiffened rear suspension with a cross-axis joint and thicker anti-roll bars, all this for a much more enticing and hyped up driving experience.
