Volkswagen has been doing quite well in sales with the POLO nameplate being the main reason for this sales increase. The Kariega plant recently shared news of producing their 500 000th successful export and last months vehicle sales saw the Polo reclaim its spot as the best selling passenger vehicle in SA. Now to build on that great momentum, Volkswagen have given us a special treat which we first laid our eyes on at the Volkswagen Indaba 2026 in the form of the special-edition Polo GTI Edition 20.
This special-edition coincides with the significant milestone for the brand, as the Volkswagen Polo celebrated its 50th anniversary globally in 2025. In addition, Plant Kariega celebrates 30 years of Polo manufacturing in South Africa in 2026. The GTI gains a new authentic looks which features decals that further suggest that this is not an ordinary GTI Polo but rather a Edition 20.
The car also debuts signature body paint colors that were previously not available on the Polo GTI range, which are in Crystal Ice Blue Metallic, Kings Red Metallic, and Ascot Grey exterior paint colors. For Crystal Ice Blue and Ascot Grey, the rear diffuser is painted in Kings Red Metallic. Some more exterior features to signify the difference are a black roof, 18-inch Faro alloy wheels (smoked clear on bright machined wheels), exterior mirror housing painted in black, and includes front and rear door decals with "20."
It is worthy to note that most likely all of the optional features will be fitted as standard on the Special Edition so expect that car comes with all of the eatures such as IQ.Lights, IQ.DRIVE package including Lane Assist, Travel Assist (semi-automated driving), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Park Assist.
For the Vrrpha element one is gifted the 2.0 TSI engine which provides you a figure of 147kW and 320 Nm via a 6-speed DSG gearbox. It accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 237 km/h.
