VW Mzansi has bought the GTI legend back in Mzansi with the unveiling of the 8.5 generation at this weekends' Festival of Motoring.
The exterior of the new Golf GTI has been sharpened to enhance its iconic character. It now comes equipped with newly developed LED Plus headlights, designed with a more linear and visually striking appearance. The lower bumper design has also seen a refresh whilst still retaining the chequered flag LED fog lamps.
A horizontal LED strip in the grille comes as standard with the Volkswagen logo illuminated. The GTI badge is neatly integrated into the new grille design.
New 19-inch Queenstown alloy wheel, designed exclusively for GTI models come standard. At the rear, the newly developed LED taillight clusters give the Golf GTI a fresh and distinctive signature.
The infotainment system Discover Pro with navigation function comes standard. The system features a 12.9-inch touchscreen. The new tablet-style display is designed to be visually free-standing. The sports steering wheel is finished in perforated leather.
The interior of the Golf GTI features standard premium sport seats with integrated head restraints and Vienna leather. Red decorative GTI stitching on the seats, centre armrest, floor mats, and multifunction steering wheel emphasises the GTI identity. An exclusive GTI feature is the Engine/Start/Stop button, which pulses red after the doors are opened until the turbocharged engine is started.
The new Golf GTI will be offered with the 2.0 TSI 195kW engine mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. The engine develops a maximum torque of 370Nm available between 1 600 – 4 500 rpm. It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds with a top speed of 250km/h. The Eco, Comfort, Sport and Individual driving profiles are available in the Golf GTI. The running gear is also included in driving profile control by means of the optional DCC. The model offers superior braking performance: the GTI is equipped with a 17-inch brake system.
