Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is re-entering the cargo and delivery market with the launch of the Vivo Xpress which will be available for sale from February 2026.

There has been a noticeable growing demand in the entry delivery vehicle segment in the South Africa market since the Nissan NP200 stopped being produce. In response manufacturers like Volkswagen is reintroducing cars like the Vivo Xpress to capture this expanding market and this will be the only locally built model to compete in the A0 City Van segment.

Previously, the Vivo Xpress was offered in 2016, but no successor was developed after the second-generation Vivo launched in 2018. Now, with the rise of e-commerce (Takealot or Amazon), large fleet and market demand for Light Duty Vehicles (LDVs) is surging.

The new Vivo Xpress basically provides a secure enclosed storage without the need for a canopy and offers safety options such as Smash & Grab film or Window Guards. The car/van is easy to load via side and rear doors, accommodating both small and larger cargo efficiently.

The Vivo Xpress is said to be fuel-efficient, practical, and ideal for quick response operations which some might say is the typical Vivo demeanor.

The Vivo Xpress has a payload-capacity of 490 kg and will be powered by the popular 1.4l engine that produces a 63kW output.

The Vivo Xpress comes with a standard 3-year/ 120 000km warranty. The anti-corrosion warranty is 6 years. The service interval is 15 000km. Customers have an option to add Easy Drive Service & Maintenance Plans.
